The 8th AfriGEO Symposium was hosted at the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) in Nairobi, Kenya from 12–15 August 2024, alongside the RCMRD International Conference 2024 under the theme “Earth Intelligence for Africa.”
Inspired by the GEO Post-2025 Strategy – “Earth Intelligence for All”, the theme emphasized the need for targeted and actionable insights based on Earth Observation (EO) data to inform better decision-making for a sustainable world.
Key Concepts & Questions
The symposium’s concept emphasized:
- Leveraging improved access to information and rich indigenous knowledge
- Harnessing technological advancements and open access to analytical tools
- Developing accurate and robust early warning systems
- Strengthening spatial planning and user participation
- Aligning national, regional, continental, and global strategies for EO integration
The symposium explored critical questions such as:
- How do we harness the power of Earth Intelligence to support decisions in various sectors?
- How do we integrate and co-design systems, science, professions, people, and policies to improve productivity and operational quality?
